Overview

Christopher P. Baker will be leading this Cultural exchange trip and with many years of experience traveling and photographing all around Cuba, he is ideally suited to lead the participants to experience the varied and unique sights and photo opportunities in Eastern Cuba. Consider joining us on this extraordinary adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1: 
We’ll arrive on our flight from Miami to Holguin. We’ll have lunch in Bayamo, then drive to Santiago. Dinner will be on our own. We’ll spend the night in Santiago.

Day 2: 
In the morning we’ll visit historic San Juan Hill with historian and musician Aquillis Jorge Ribaud / Moncada. After lunch in Santiago we’ll explore Reparto Los Hoyos, and visit an Afro Cubano dance and music company. This evening, there will be an optional visit to see some of Cuba’s best traditional music at the Casa de la Trova. We’ll spend the night in Santiago.

Day 3:
This morning, we’ll have a photo walk around Avenida Manduley and Vista Alegre. After lunch we’ll take the boat ride to visit the small traditional island community on Cayo Granma. We’ll then visit the El Morro fort, situated high on a cliff and witness the canonazo, or canon firing ceremony, which takes place at sunset. After dinner we’ll get backstage for the make-up and preparation for one of the biggest cabaret shows in Santiago. We’ll Spend the night in Santiago.

Day 4: 
Our group travels to Baracoa today, with stops outside Guantanamo at Zoologico Piedra, and a cultural performance. After checking into our hotel in Baracoa, we’ll enjoy dinner together and spend the night there.

Day 5: 
In the morning we’ll have a walking tour of Baracoa, Cuba’s first town, established in 1511, and the first capital of Cuba. The bay was visited by Christopher Columbus in 1492. The area was not accessible by land until 1964. We’ll go to lunch at a river-side restaurant, visit a cacao plantation, and in the afternoon, back in Baracoa we will visit with a local Quinceanera (girls 15th birthday) photographer, and have a photo shoot. We’ll spend the night in Baracoa.

Day 6: 
This morning we visit the Boca de Yumuri, a beautiful, scenic area featuring a river, relaxing palm trees, and views of the mountains meeting the sea. We may go for a boat ride on the river. We’ll have lunch at a nearby town where we’ll photograph a dance performance, and sample their traditional food. This afternoon we’ll have time to photograph in the streets of Baracoa. We’ll spend the night in Baracoa.

Day 7: 
Today our group travels from Baracoa to Santiago de Cuba. We’ll have lunch near Guantanamo at Mirador Gobernadora, where you can see the infamous U.S. Naval base far off in the distance. After checking into our hotel, well visit Parque Cespedes, and the famous Cementerio Santa Ifigenia, where we’ll visit the tomb of national hero Jose Marti, as well as the tomb of Fidel Castro. After dinner an optional excursion to the Tropicana cabaret. We’ll Spend the night in Santiago.

Day 8 : 
In the morning we’ll visit a dance company. After lunch we’ll drive to Bayamo. We’ll Spend the night in Bayamo.

Day 9: 
We’ll spend the day photographing the sights and friendly people of Bayamo. We’ll visit the Parque Cespedes, El Bulevar, and the Combinado de Coches. We’ll enjoy a farewell dinner together and spend the night in Bayamo.

Day 10 : 
After breakfast, transfer to Holguin for our flight to Miami.
